The
pitcher plant or Nepenthes pervillei and with the colourful Creole name
“Lalyann potao” is an endemic insect eating plant. There are some 70 species
of pitcher plants in the world. All of them but two oriental, ranging from Sri
Lanka to Australia. The exceptions are the Madagascar and the Seychelles
species. In the Seychelles the pitcher plant is restricted to two islands; Mahé
and Silhouette. The finest stands for Seychelles pitcher plant are on the
mountain named after this plant the “Mont Pot-à-Eau” on Silhouette. |
